John Quincy Adams was the 6th president of the United States of America, and the 2nd one with the sir name of Adams, (and the 1st name John). That was not mere coincidence. John Quincy Adams was the son of the 2nd president, John Adams. He was the first son of a former president to succeed in following his father to the office of presidency. The 5th president of the United States of America was also named James, James Monroe. Looks like those buckled shoes were still in style when he was inaugurated in 1817. The ponytail seems to have disappeared, however. Overall, President James Monroe was a rather distinguished looking politician.

Researching the clothing of the presidents can be time consuming, but it is so much fun recreating the styles from past centuries! Did you know that American men once wore ribbons and ponytails?
